2017 Pink Pape

Varietals: Grenache, Counoise, Cinsault
Vineyard/AVA: Blackrock Estate Vineyard, Yakima Valley
Price: $20

Tasting notes
Pale salmon in color with a light pink hue. Delicate aromas of rose petal, citrus blossom, lemongrass and honeydew, with lifted notes of sweet pink grapefruit and lemon peel. The wine falls effortlessly onto the palate as light alpine berry flavors combine with fresh citrus and stone fruit qualities and a crushed shale minerality. Driving acidity provides excellent focus and direction, drawing out the palate to a lingering, mouth-watering finish.

Production notes

The 2017 Rosé is a blend of three traditional Châteaunuef-du-Pape varieties—Grenache, Counoise and Cinsault—all grown on our Blackrock Estate Vineyard on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley AVA. The individual blocks were harvested by hand in mid-September and loaded directly into the press, while the clusters were still cold. A gentle and rapid press cycle helped to avoid excessive extraction from the skins, yielding a juice pale pink in color with delicate flavors and aromas. Fermentation was carried out at low temperatures in concrete and stainless-steel tanks and continued until dry. After three months of maturation on lees, individual components were racked and blended to create a pure and vibrant rosé.

Vineyard/AVA: Blue Mountain Estate Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley

Vibrant melon and stone fruit aromas are complimented by notes of honeysuckle, citrus, white tea and baking spice. The wine is fresh and tactile on the palate with flavors of cantaloupe, white peach and nectarine, enhanced by flint and lightly toasted notes. This energetic white Rhone blend finishes dry and focused, with excellent minerality and a light phenolic edge.

Production notes

Our 2015 white Rhone blocks were hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed into neutral French oak barrels and egg-shaped concrete fermenters. Native yeast fermentation and heavy stirring of barrel lees helped build texture and complexity, while partial concrete maturation brought energy, focus, and minerality to the finished wine.

2013 Syrah

Vineyard/AVA: Blue Mountain Estate Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley
Price: $40

Tasting notes
Lifted notes of violet and lavender combine with dark fruit aromas of blueberry, mulberry, black pepper and clove. The wine is firm and focused on the palate with flavors of fresh plumb, black licorice, and charcuterie.  Silky, fine-grained tannins slowly expand across the palate, steadily building in intensity without ever overshadowing the purity of the fruit. A classic example of cool-climate Syrah.

Production notes

Tranche’s Syrah is a blend of the most exceptional blocks within our Blue Mountain Estate Vineyard. The 2013 growing season produced intensely fragrant wines with deep color and a purity of bright fruit flavors. Individual blocks were harvested in mid-October and hand-sorted into small concrete fermenters. A portion of the ferments received a small inclusion of stems, while others were co-fermented with Viognier. Once dry, the wines were pressed and filled into new and used French oak puncheons. After 22 months in barrel, the wines were racked, blended and bottled, and received a further 24 months of maturation prior to release.
